6/7/2014 CoroCoro Coverage: Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

This month's issue of CoroCoro magazine has revealed several new additions to the new Pokémon games Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, including mega evolutions for Sceptile, Swampert, and Diancie.

Mega Sceptile is a Grass/Dragon-type, as I predicted last month, and has the ability Lightning rod. It also looks freaking awesome. This might be a fun Pokémon to pair with Gyarados in a Double Battle!

Mega Blaziken is the same as always, and cool as ever.

Mega Swampert retains its typing, but gains the ability Swift Swim. And it looks like it's been lifting! Swampert has always been one of my favorites, and this mega evolution has me very excited. Swift Swim opens up an entirely new way to play Swampert!

Mega Diancie's ability is unknown, but it likely retains its type of Rock/Fairy. It looks more malicious in this form. What could this mega evolution bring to the table? Hopefully a cool ability, or a chance for this crystalline Fairy to learn Play Rough.

Here is a screenshot of Team Magma and Team Aqua, either under new management or with a whole new look (probably the latter).

The player characters also received a makeover.

Steven Stone makes a return, and this time it looks like he’s using a Mega Charizard-X. According to the text, he is trying to unlock the secret of mega evolution by investigating an item called the Mega Bangle.

And finally, what we’ve all been waiting for - the new formes of Groudon and Kyogre. These are presumably similar to mega evolutions, but CoroCoro calls them “prehistoric” formes.

The game refers to this as Ancient Devolution. Perhaps these are the forms that Groudon and Kyogre took during their ancient squabble ages ago, before they fell into a deep slumber? Perhaps the Red Orb and Blue Orb that the player obtains during the story also triggers this new change as well.

What other new changes will be brought into the new games? Keep your eyes peeled for news updates from the SplashAttack team!
